The non-profit downtown art incubator provides downtown space for artists to create, engage, and instruct. Our artists, however, are not confined to the walls of High Cotton Arts. In collaboration with Athens Arts League, artists from High Cotton Arts are assisting in a pilot program at East Limestone High School.
The goal of the program is to provide art supplies and art instruction to students in Jennifer "Miss Sam" Janzen's art survey class. The classes will occur in March and April and focus on creating with watercolors.
"We want to support students who have an interest in art and support teachers who want to provide art opportunities for their classes," said Athens Arts League Vice President Diane Lehr, who oversees the league's programs.
In addition, Athens Arts League has applied for a grant to offer studio space for a year to Athens City School's Fine Arts Program so students can utilize the space as a studio and exhibit area.
